SAN JOSE — A driver died Saturday night after his car hit a tree stump on an embankment and overturned on Interstate 280, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at about 9:25 p.m., according to CHP officer Ross Lee.
A 30-year-old San Jose man driving a red 2019 Ford Fusion was on the ramp from northbound Highway 17 to southbound I-280. The man didn’t successfully navigate the curve and veered off the ramp. The car went down the embankment, hit a tree stump and ended up overturned on the roadway of I-280.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name wasn’t immediately released pending confirmation by authorities and notification of next of kin.
Three lanes of southbound 280 were shut down for about two hours during the investigation, according to authorities.
