FREMONT — A motorist fatally hit a pedestrian near the signature entrance to the Niles district early Saturday, according to Fremont police.
The collision was reported at about 12:15 a.m., when a person was walking across Mission Boulevard near the Sullivan Underpass, police said in a brief news release.
After the crash, police say, the driver stopped and called for help, then tried to tend to the injured person. Soon after, police officers and emergency personnel arrived and provided additional aid, but the person died at the scene.
Police described the driver as cooperative with investigators and didn’t indicate whether officers arrested or cited anyone.
Additional details were not immediately released Saturday.
