Surveillance video captured the moment an insane shootout erupted at a convenience store in Montebello in southern California.
The incident unfolded at the 7-Eleven store on Saturday, April 30, just before 10:30 p.m.
The video shows the employee dealing with customers before one got into a short conversation with a man walking in. That man pulled out a gun and started shooting while the first customer pulled out his gun and shot back.
Bystanders ran away from the gunfire before the first assailant ran out of the store.
Police said there were dozens of gunshots in the shootout, but amazingly, no one was struck, and no one was injured.
“We are happy to report that no one was hurt or injured,” said Montebello public information officer Michael Chee. “Miraculously no one was injured by the bullets or the gunfire. But the suspects do remain at large.”
Police have made no arrests and are asking for help from the public in identifying the suspects.
Ed Lasko of KTTV reported that neighbors in the area were afraid to talk about the incident on camera.
Employees said the store was riddled with damage from the shooting and Lasko noted that the owners had quickly replaced the damaged doors.
“It’s a really scary thing. You just hit the floor, pray that you don’t get hit,” said said store cashier Javier Romero.
He added that the two suspects were in an argument before they started shooting.
“Montebello is a safe city, and incidents like this are uncommon,” claimed Police Chief Paul Espinosa. “Like our entire region, Montebello has experienced a rise in some crime over the past year for several different reasons. However, I assure residents that your Police Department remains vigilant and ready to respond and protect whenever necessary.”
