The child was riding a bicycle on Montrose Avenue at 3:45 p.m. when they were struck, the Fremont Police Department said in an advisory. The driver remained at the scene.
Officers and medical personnel provided first aid to the child, who was then taken to a trauma center.
“Despite the efforts of hospital staff, the juvenile unfortunately passed away,” police said in the advisory. “More details will be made available as the investigation progresses.”
