Although not common as red dot, reflex sights have been available with green dot options for a while now. Some believe that eyes see green better. One such company is Viridian Weapon Technologies, which is set to release its new line of reflex sights with green dot. However, it appears that the company is going all-in on green. As of this writing, it does not appear there will be red dot options.
Viridian Reflex Sights with Green Dot Technology
Offered in three different mounting options, the new sights are constructed of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, for hard-use operation. With mounting options for Shield standard, RMR standard, or Docter mounting footprints, you can outfit most any pistol. In addition, each model comes with the tools to mount it and a Picatinny mount for further options.
Each model is powered by a CR2032 battery and provides 30,000+ hours of battery life. This is due in part to the auto-off feature that kicks in after two minutes. Likewise, each model features Viridian’s INSTANT-ON technology that wakes the sight when moved. However, if you prefer to preserve the battery during storage you can manually shut it off.
All three models feature a 3 MOA green dot with 8 visible and 2 night vision settings. As a result, you can count on ideal operation under any lighting condition. Likewise, with an operating temperature range of -4°F to 130°F and a water-resistant rating of IPX6, it will operate in any environmental condition.

Personally, I have not used a green dot reflex sight before, so I cannot speak to the improved visibility. But I do wonder how it does against a green background, like a field, trees, or bushes. With the company’s success with green lasers, I can only imagine they are on to something here. I would be interested in seeing for myself when they are released.
