OAKLAND — A man died after a shooting Tuesday in a West Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Around 4 p.m., Oakland police responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity near Ninth and Pine streets in the city’s Prescott neighborhood.
When police arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Officers provided emergency life-saving measures alongside Oakland Fire Department firefighters, a fire department spokesman said.
Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately available, pending next-of-kin notification by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau.
Police did not provide any information about a motive, possible suspect or any associated vehicle.
The shooting marks the 39th homicide investigated by Oakland police so far this year. There were 47 homicides at this point in 2021.
