OAKLAND — The search continued Saturday for the person who fatally shot a 41-year-old man to death Friday night in the Upper Dimond district of Oakland, police said.

Police said the man was shot multiple times after he got into a confrontation with another person. He died at the scene. The name of the man, an Oakland resident, has not yet been released.

The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Friday outside in the 3300 block of MacArthur Boulevard. Police have not said what the confrontation was about nor have they released any suspect information.

The killing is the 38th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  The California Highway Patrol has also investigated two homicides on Oakland freeways. Last year at this time, police had investigated 47 homicides in the city.
