The newest breakfast spot in the East Bay has a cute name and an even cuter signature dish.

Ellie’s Baked Eggs, now open at 1865 Orchard Ave. in San Leandro, specializes in just that: Individual ramekins of baked eggs with comforting additions like cheese, bacon, fresh basil and even skirt steak. Ellie’s also offers open-faced sandwiches, salads, homemade soups, sides and baked goods. The restaurant is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday to Tuesday.

There are five baked egg options ($9.50-$16.50) at the cafe, where the tables and chairs are bright yellow and the dishes come out on stainless trays with black and white checkerboard paper.

The Original baked eggs come with a cheesy bottom layer, while The B.S.F Top is draped with bacon, spinach and feta. If you take your eggs with more animal protein, opt for the Skirt and Chimi Top. Skirt steak is grilled on an open fire, sliced and served with a drizzle of house-made chimichurri. Each option comes with peewee potatoes, arugula salad or locally-sourced toast.

Other menu standouts include homemade soups, like the Honey Roasted Corn Chowder. Those with a sweet tooth should opt for the cinnamon-laced French toast — cubed and baked, of course.
