SAN CARLOS — Police deputies arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left one person injured Friday night in San Carlos.

Edward John Smith was taken into custody and booked into the San Mateo County Jail early Saturday morning after a police search for his whereabouts throughout the evening, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday at about 9 p.m., police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of the 600 block of Cedar Street.

Police found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound and “began rendering aid.” The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Police identified the suspect as Smith, who was known to the victim, through an investigation, the sheriff’s office wrote in a release.

Police said the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the public.
