A driver was killed in a single-car crash Wednesday afternoon on a Santa Cruz Mountains road, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash was reported by callers to 911 around 3:40 p.m. who said they heard a crash along Granite Creek Road near Branciforte Drive but didn’t see any wreckage.
Within a few minutes, callers said they had discovered the vehicle — not visible from the roadway — overturned and about 40 feet down a slope toward the creek.
The sole occupant of the vehicle was unconscious and not breathing, according to the CHP log.
Both lanes of the road were closed for the emergency operation and recovery of the car.
The crash site is about a mile north of DeLaveaga Park. In July, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the same stretch of road.
