Major League Baseball player Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres was photographed sporting a “Let’s Go Brandon” t-shirt.
“Padres superstar Manny Machado repping a “Let’s Go Brandon” shirt at Spring Training,” KUSI News tweeted along with a photo of the baseball player wearing the politically-charged apparel.
The phrase, which is a euphemism for the profane expression “F*** Joe Biden,” emerged last year. As a reporter interviewed driver Brandon Brown last year after Brown had won a NASCAR race, members of the crowd could be heard chanting “F*** Joe Biden.”
But the reporter remarked, “you can hear the chants from the, the crowd — Let’s go Brandon.”
The phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” swiftly achieved significant popularity as an anti-Biden jab.
So far, the tweet from KUSI News has earned more than 43,000 likes on Twitter.
Some on social media expressed their approval, while others expressed disapproval.
“Well I officially have a new least favorite player,” someone tweeted.
“Why am I not surprised. Idiot,” another tweet said.
“And just like that I’m a Manny Machado fan,” another tweet said.
“That is awesome,” someone else declared.
“Some heroes wear capes, some swing baseball bats,” another tweet stated.
President Biden has been underwater in various job approval polls for some time, which, unless there is a significant shift in public sentiment, could bode ill for Democratic candidates heading into the 2022 midterms elections later this year.
