Police arrested four teenagers for the very gruesome killing of and elderly victim of carjacking, and two of the suspects are females who are only 15 years old.
The harrowing incident unfolded in New Orleans, Louisiana, at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
New Orleans Police said four suspects drove off with the car of Linda Frickey, 73, but she was still entangled in the seatbelt and was dragged for about a block.
One witness said he yelled at them to stop when he saw she was being dragged along.
“I got out of my vehicle screaming ‘stop stop you are dragging someone.’ He took off with the vehicle. Still dragging her. Reckless. No care for human beings at all,” said Todd Ecker to WDSU-TV.
Police said the victim’s arm had been ripped off in the incident. Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced her dead at the scene of the crime.
The four suspects drove away in the 2021 gray Nissan Kicks owned by the victim.
Family members of the victim said Frickey had been leaving her job as an insurance salesman when she was killed.
On Tuesday, the police department said they arrested four suspects including a 17-year-old male, a 16-year-old female, and two 15-year-old females.
Police previously released video of the four teenage suspects on social media to ask the public’s help in identifying them.
New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said in a media briefing Tuesday said the parents of two of the teenage suspects were critical in their arrest.
“Within an hour after the first video release, we had parents at our police station,” Ferguson said.
Another one of the 15-year-old female suspects turned herself in to police Tuesday morning.
Some of the suspects reportedly have existing criminal records.
Ferguson added that the teenagers would be tried for second-degree murder as adults.
“It is disgusting. When is it going to stop? That is what they target? Old ladies. It is cowardly. It’s evil. The parents need to be held accountable,” said Kathy Richard, the victim’s sister-in-law.
