LOS GATOS — A motorcyclist killed in a collision Thursday night at the interchange between Highway 17 and Highway 85 has been identified by authorities.
The crash was reported at 6:41 p.m. on the transition ramp from southbound Highway 17 to southbound Highway 85, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ross Lee. Officers arrived at about 6:51 p.m.
The motorcyclist — identified at 61-year-old San Jose resident Terry Edward Barber — was operating a 1997 Suzuki motorcycle on the ramp when he left the road, crossed into the right shoulder for an “unknown reason” and hit a guardrail, officials said. He ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene.
Lee said investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash and don’t believe alcohols or drugs were involved.
