OAKLAND — Shootings at an East Oakland sideshow early Saturday morning left one man dead and two others wounded, authorities said.
The name of the 24-year-old Oakland man killed has not been released.
The shootings were reported at about 3 a.m. in the area of 42nd Avenue and ramps to and from Interstate 880, an area known by sideshow enthusiasts as “The Pit.” It’s a frequent gathering place for sideshow activity.
Police estimate hundreds of cars and spectators were at the site when the shooting began. It is not yet known what prompted the shootings.
One man was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The other two men, a 21-year-old Antioch resident and a 22-year-old Vallejo resident, got their own transportation to the hospital and were in stable condition. They were wounded in a shooting separate from the homicide, police said.
Police don’t believe that any of the three men who were shot knew each other. No arrests have been made.
There have been numerous acts of violence at sideshows over the years, including homicides, robberies and shootings.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $20,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
Anyone can call police at 510-238-3821 or at 510-238-7950. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 510-777-8572.
