MENLO PARK — A pedestrian died Friday morning after being hit by a Caltrain on the tracks, according to authorities.
The collision occurred about 10:36 a.m. when northbound train #113 hit a person between Watkins Avenue and Encinal Avenue, according to Caltrain spokesperson Dan Lieberman. The person was walking near or on the tracks, he said.
Emergency personnel arrived at the crash site but the person was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Trains were initially being held on both tracks. Service was eventually restored on the southbound late at reduced speed; both tracks were fully reopened at maximum speeds by about 1:30 p.m., officials said.
There were around 68 passengers on the train, with no injuries reported onboard.
The person’s identity wasn’t immediately released. The death marked Caltrain’s fourth fatality of 2022.
