OAKLAND — A motorcyclist died in a crash Wednesday that also involved another motorcycle after police said both appeared to be speeding.
The other motorcyclist was not injured. A truck driver in the collision also was not injured.
It all happened about 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in the East Lake District.
Two men on motorcycles were speeding westbound on Foothill when one of them failed to stop at an intersection stop sign, according to police. That motorcycle slammed into a passenger truck that was going north on 4th Avenue, police said.
The crash threw the rider from the motorcycle, and he died at the scene. Police identified him Thursday as 40-year-old Joseph Hickman, of Emeryville.
The second motorcyclist crashed into the first one but was OK despite being thrown onto the ground.
Police were investigating whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
The fatality remains under investigation, and police urged anyone with information to contact traffic investigators at 510-777-8570.
