NOVATO (CBS SF/BCN) – A Petaluma man died Monday morning after his motorcycle collided with two other vehicles along U.S. Highway 101 near Novato, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 46-year-old man was splitting lanes on southbound Highway 101 about 6:30 a.m., when traffic ahead slowed suddenly, the CHP said.

The motorcycle rider, whose name was not released, rear-ended a van, then spun around and hit a truck in the slow lane. The man was thrown from the motorcycle, according to the CHP.

The wreck, initially reported as a solo collision, occurred on Highway 101 south of the San Antonio Road offramp, near Olompali State Historic Park.

Lanes were initially blocked by the crash, but were cleared shortly after 9 a.m.
