California’s Great America announced Monday it has canceled one of its most popular seasonal attractions.
On the same day it introduced a new ride that will open in May, the Santa Clara park said it is set to wave goodbye to Halloween Haunt, which has long been one of Northern California’s most popular — and scariest — haunted house-style attractions.
In its place will be more family-friendly Tricks and Treats event, which runs Sept. 23-Oct. 30. It’s described as an “all-new, over-the-top, Halloween event with all fun and no fright.”
“Guests of all ages will find ghastly great things to do as they choose their own path to follow, from exploring mazes, to dressing up for costume parties, playing game shows, dancing with spooky characters and enjoying boo-licious food and drinks,” according to a news release.
No reason was given for the change.
The park also said it plans to open the new Liberty Twirler, one of several upgrades to its All-American Corners area, in May.
“On Liberty Twirler, guests will take a spin on this dizzying scrambler ride that offers fun for all ages,” according to a news release.
The popular amusement park opens its doors for the 2022 season on March 12. It will be the first full season for the new South Bay Shores waterpark, which debuted in 2021.
“Between our exciting lineup of both new and expanding events, the addition of Liberty Twirler and other upgrades in All-American Corners, and everything our guests love about South Bay Shores waterpark, there’s something for everyone, every day of the season,” said Barb Granter, general manager.
