A Hayward man suspected of shooting two people in separate freeway shootings on Sunday has been arrested, authorities said.

Both of the shooting victims survived, according to the California Highway Patrol.

In a statement, the CHP identified the suspect as 24-year-old Armando Perez and said they booked him on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.

The first shooting happened on westbound Interstate 205 near I-5, and the second one happened on westbound I-580 in Livermore.

The shooting on I-580 happened about 11:45 a.m. in the westbound direction, west of North Livermore Avenue. The CHP said the gunfire hit a male inside a white pickup truck. He went to Eden Medical Center and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The CHP said they identified the suspect vehicle as a brown sedan and they located it on westbound I-580 near the Strobridge Avenue exit in Castro Valley about 10 minutes after the second shooting. The CHP said officers arrested the man there.

Investigators for the CHP later linked Perez to the shooting on I-205 that happened about 11:15 a.m. The CHP said that shooting victim suffered critical injuries. He remained in critical condition past 10 a.m. Tuesday, the CHP said.

The motive for both shootings is under investigation, the CHP said.
