Mountain View won its second Central Coast Section Open Division championship, beating St. Francis 3-1 on Friday in the final at Del Mar High.

Stanford-bound Allie Montoya scored back-to-back first-half goals for the Spartans.

Midfielder Abby Westcott added to Mountain View’s lead five minutes into the second half with a free-kick from 35 yards out.

Charloette Kohler scored the lone goal for St. Francis.

The Mountain View schools played to a tie earlier in the season. Since then, the Spartans have gone on to win 19 straight games.

“We’ve had on the board all year long to not only be the No. 1 seed in the division but to beat the best,” Mountain View coach Jeff Panos said. “It’s also special to beat a very quality St.Francis team.”

Mountain View improved to 21-0-1 while winning its fifth section title overall.

St Francis is 14-1-5.

Both teams will play in the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California regional tournament next week.

In its second CCS Open Division championship appearance in three years, Branham fell short against Watsonville 2-1 at Del Mar.

Julian Parra scored for Branham.

The Bruins were without coach Danny Kadah, who served a suspension after getting a red card in the semifinals against Bellarmine.

Branham had a 21-game unbeaten streak snapped while falling to 18-2-3.

The Bruins’ season will continue at NorCals next week.

“It takes a really special group not only talent-wise but also as players and people to have the kind of season that we had.” assistant coach John Shikashio said.
