OAKLAND — A 20-year-old San Leandro man was fatally shot in East Oakland on Friday night, authorities said.

The shooting was reported around 9:56 p.m. Friday on the 1400 block of 104th Avenue near International Blvd. The man was found shot on the street and was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He has not yet been identified by authorities.

Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting or said why the man was in Oakland. Some men were detained at the scene for questioning by police, but as of Saturday morning no arrests have been announced.

The killing is the 16th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has also investigated two homicides on Oakland freeways so far this year. Last year at this time, Oakland police had investigated 25 homicides in the city.
