A driver died Thursday morning after being hit by a Caltrain while trying to cross the tracks in San Bruno, officials said.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. when Caltrain No. 108 hit the vehicle at Scott Street, according to a statement from Caltrain spokesman Dan Lieberman.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency personnel remained at the scene past 9 a.m. The train had approximately 31 passengers, and none of them were injured, according to Lieberman.
Caltrain closed its track in the southbound direction. Lieberman said by 9 a.m. that trains were moving through the site in both directions but were using only a single track.
By about 9:30 a.m., trains were able to move northbound on the tracks, according to Caltrain. Trains were single-tracking through the Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Lawrence stations. All passengers getting on those trains had to board on the southbound platform until 4 p.m., the agency said.
The fatality was the third involving a Caltrain in 2022.
Caltrain urged customers on trains going through the area to visit its Twitter page @CaltrainAlerts for updates on other train delays or cancellations.
