Do you know how you can tell when elections are coming up? When Democrat lawmakers start pretending that they don’t support things like gun control. It’s that magical time in our country when we’re asked to forget their actions and accept that they’re different now. For reals this time.

Democrat Lawmakers Distance Themselves from Biden’s Gun Control

During the recent anniversary of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Biden did what Democrats do. He pushed for more gun control.

According to a piece from The Hill, “Biden on Monday tried to resuscitate his gun control agenda by calling on Congress to act. He noted that he’s asked Congress to provide an additional $500 million in funding to reduce violent crime and increased funding for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Marshals.”

In a statement from the White House Biden demands, “Congress must do much more — beginning with requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers.”

However, the Hill story reports that Democratic lawmakers aren’t too keen on the push, so close to the midterm elections. This has many gun control groups and activists feeling exasperated and disenfranchised.

Igor Volsky, co-founder of Guns Down America told The Hill, “We’ve been promised by Senate Majority Leader Schumer as far back as March, April that there would be a vote during the summer, then it got pushed back even further. They’re using this familiar playbook of making all kinds of promises during the campaign and then fail to deliver anything when they’re in power.”

However, Democrat voters will continue voting for them, even though they know they will not make good their campaign promises. In the face of blatant dishonesty, this staunch devotion is what they count on. Because try as they might, Americans don’t believe their attempts to convince us that they suddenly don’t support gun control.

The Art of the Stall

In a time when Democrats control the White House and both branches of Congress, they still refuse to act. This is because many Democrats know how vulnerable they would be for pushing such unpopular measures.

As two bills, passed by the House last March, sit, stalled out, many question the Majority Leader’s promises. Senate Majority Leader Schumer promised gun control groups that the Senate would vote on the bills by summer of 2021. However, they still haven’t even made it to the floor for debate.

According to The Hill, “Now the question Schumer faces is whether to force a vote on background checks legislation that is likely to fail because there aren’t 10 Republicans in the 50-50 Senate willing to vote for it.

“While such a vote would put Republicans on the record as opposing a reform that more than 80 percent of voters support, it could turn into a future political liability for vulnerable Democrats running in swing states such as Arizona, Georgia, New Hampshire and Nevada,” they add.

Unsubstantiated statistics aside (a majority of Americans do not support more gun control), they recognize the liability of anti-gun measures. And that is a good thing. The more their policies put their careers in jeopardy, the less likely they will be to push them. And that is the real win for the American people.

If you ever find yourself questioning the Democrat’s resolve to put their careers before their constituents, remember Beto O’Rourke. It only took him just over two years to go from “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15” to “I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone.”
