Drivers on the top deck of the Bay Bridge were treated to fireworks Tuesday night.

It was not a show the California Highway Patrol wanted.

According to the CHP, the occupants of about 10-15 vehicles lit pyrotechnic fireworks after stopping their vehicles on westbound Interstate 80 atop the bridge. The vehicles blocked all lanes of traffic just west of Treasure Island.

The occupants in the CHP then got out of their cars and lit pyrotechnic fireworks. The CHP said the fireworks exploded above the bridge.

Motorists on the bridge reported the incident about 7:43 p.m, and the CHP said the fireworks went off for about two minutes.

When it was over, the people lighting the pyrotechnics got back into their vehicles and drove off, the CHP said. The backed-up traffic on the bridge soon unclogged.

Nobody was caught.

The CHP urged anyone with information on who may have done this to contact CHP Officer Mark Andrews at 415-407-3741.
