Lee visits SCS

On a Feb. 9 tour of Sunnyvale Community Services (SCS) new facility, District 3 County Supervisor Otto Lee and his staff learned about the nonprofit’s assistance programs, including rent relief, food distributions, wrap-around case management and services for homeless individuals. Lee’s District 3 includes Milpitas.

SCS moved to 1160 Kern Ave. in Sunnyvale on Nov. 1. The nonprofit remained open throughout the pandemic at its former facility on Kifer Road and has distributed nearly $8 million in rental assistance since the start of the pandemic.

The nonprofit’s expansion into the much larger Kern Avenue facility was in response to the growing need for basic services in North Santa Clara County. SCS helped 10,492 local residents in 2021, a 53% increase since 2015.

SCS has raised $17 million toward the $20 million needed for the new facility.

Bank supports SCS

City National Bank celebrated the opening of its Sunnyvale branch with a Feb. 5 ribbon-cutting ceremony, at which bank staff presented a $10,000 check to support Sunnyvale Community Services, a nonprofit emergency agency assisting local residents.

Located at 301 W. McKinley Ave., Suite 100, the Sunnyvale branch marks City National Bank’s third location in Silicon Valley. To serve the city’s diverse population, Sunnyvale branch staff speak different languages such as Hindi, Tagalog, Arabic and Cambodian.
