An earthquake Wednesday morning near Lake Chabot was the third around magnitude 3 in that area in 10 days.

The 2.9 quake, at 6:21 a.m., was centered near Chabot Park and within Oakland city limits, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The two earlier quakes were both within San Leandro:

  • 3.1 on Feb. 6, near Interstate 580 and Lake Chabot Road
  • 3.2 on Feb. 11, near MacArthur Boulevard and Victoria Avenue

The Hayward Fault runs through that area.

Early reports to the USGS Did You Feel It webpage indicate Wednesday’s quake was felt from Martinez to Fremont, as far east as Pleasanton, and on the Peninsula.
