No. 1 Campolindo 56, Lincoln-Stockton 54
With the game tied and five seconds left against Lincoln-Stockton, Campolindo’s Aidan Mahaney pulled down a rebound and sailed a deep pass across the court to Clay Naffziger, who had a chance to win the game with a layup.
Naffziger wasn’t able to make the shot.
Luckily for the Cougars, Cade Bennett never gave up on the play. In one motion Saturday night, the senior leaped, grabbed the rebound just to the left of the backboard and banked in a shot as time expired to give Campolindo the victory at the Venture Academy in Stockton.
The Cougars extended their winning streak to 15 games. They have won 40 of 41 dating to 2020.

As successful as 21-1 Campolindo has been this season, coach Steven Dyer said this game wasn’t exactly the team’s prettiest performance.
“There’s definitely points of the game where I wasn’t sure if we’re gonna win but credit to our guys for finding a way at the end,” Dyer said.
Just 24 hours earlier, Campolindo defeated league rival Acalanes. There wasn’t much time to prepare. All Campolindo could do on game day was study its opponents in a 30-minute film session and rest as much as possible during the 60-mile trip to Stockton, where the team would face one of the Sac-Joaquin Section’s top teams.
“That’s kind of the point of this is we want to put our guys in some hard situations so that we’re kind of ready for anything in the playoffs,” Dyer said.
“They’re a really good team,” the coach added. “They have a lot of guys that compete really hard. So we’re expecting a close game like this.”
The fatigue from Friday night’s game definitely slowed down Campolindo, according to Dyer.
Lincoln got off to a hot start by leading 10-3 in the first quarter, but the Cougars battled back. Campolindo managed to outscore Lincoln in the second and third quarter, 14-10 and 14-11, respectively.

“It’s about changing mindsets and needing to compete a little bit harder,” Dyer said about the quick turnaround.
Along with his game-winning pass, the St. Mary’s-bound Mahaney finished with 20 points. Naffziger had 17 points.
