At about 10:50 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to the 200 block of South Airport Avenue for a report of a person down on the sidewalk, possibly suffering from a gunshot wound, the South San Francisco Police Department said in a news release Friday.

The victim was found and taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he remained Friday, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting likely stemmed from an altercation at a nearby homeless encampment, police said. No suspect information was available.
