MILPITAS – A man who was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of killing his ex-girlfriend and leading Milpitas officers in a pursuit has been identified as Anthony Jon Juco, 42, of San Jose, police said.

The Milpitas Police Department on Tuesday also revealed that the suspect’s mother – Simona Marie Atondo, 60, of Concord – was arrested on suspicion of aiding his escape.

Police did not release the victim’s name and city of residence. But in an interview with KTVU, her boyfriend, Lennart Persson, identified her as 35-year-old Christina Raymond.

The killing occurred Sunday while the victim was stopped in Milpitas, according to police.

At about 12:40 p.m., officers were called to the area of Dixon Road and North Milpitas Boulevard to check on a woman. Police said they arrived to see her car speeding away from the area.

Officers pursued the car, which ultimately crashed near Warren Avenue, east of Kato Road, in Fremont. The victim was found in the backseat and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said it appeared as though she had been “assaulted with a knife.”

Juco was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries he suffered in the crash as well as “presumably self-inflicted injuries,” police said. He was still in the hospital Tuesday.

Once Juco is medically cleared, he will be booked into Santa Clara County jail on a homicide charge, police said.

Police said numerous interviews, video footage and physical evidence led officers to the conclusion that Atondo had helped her son escape. Atondo, they added, told officers she had seen a dead woman in the car. She was taken into custody Sunday night.
