SAN MATEO – A 32-year-old San Mateo man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting his brother in the face on Christmas Eve, police said.

The shooting was reported at about 8:10 p.m. on Dec. 24 at a residence on the 600 block of North Claremont Street, the San Mateo Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.

Officers arrived to find a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

The victim was uncooperative, but detectives later identified his brother as a suspect in the shooting. Police said the investigation revealed the suspect had shot the victim in the face during a “heated argument” at their home on North Claremont Street.

Officers found the suspect as he was leaving the residence on Christmas Day and arrested him without incident, police said.

The suspect was booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
