The No. 2 ranked Stanford women’s basketball team’s Pac-12 opener scheduled for Friday in Seattle has been postponed because of COVID-19 protocols within the Washington program.
Cal’s game scheduled for Sunday against the Huskies in Seattle also has been postponed.
The schools are working to reschedule the game, according to Stanford and UW releases.
The Cardinal (8-3) is now slated to open conference play at Washington State on Jan. 2 in Pullman.
Arizona, which played Stanford in the NCAA Championship game last season and is considered the top challenger for the conference title this season, had its Pac-12 opening weekend wiped out because of virus issues at USC and UCLA.
This is the first disruption this season for Washington (5-3), which suspended the program for two weeks last season following a COVID outbreak. Last season Stanford was not allowed to play home games after their Nov. 25 opener because of Santa Clara County COVID restrictions, spending the rest of the season on the road. Stanford’s conference “home opener” last season was against the Huskies in Las Vegas.
