It was a white day after Christmas high atop Mount Hamilton on Sunday as at least six inches of snow fell.
The Lick Observatory was covered in white powder at the mountain’s 4,265-foot summit as children sledded down the hillside, threw giant snowballs and a man cradled his calico cat in his coat to keep it warm.
Closer to the coast, on-and-off rain showers are forecast to continue sweeping across the Bay Area for at least the next couple days, and many other peaks across the region could see several inches of snow early this week, National Weather Service meteorologist Roger Gaas said. For example, up to six inches of snow could fall on Mt. Diablo.
Flurries also could even fly in some Bay Area communities, though forecasters are still unsure whether the storm will have enough moisture for that to happen.
“It’s going to be chilly for the rest of the week and into the New Year,” National Weather Service meteorologist Gaas said.
