BAY POINT — Two California Highway Patrol officers were treated at a hospital for injuries after a car struck them during a traffic stop following a pursuit Sunday, authorities said.

In a statement posted to social media, the CHP said the officers tried to stop a blue Subaru Outback around 3:30 a.m. near Bailey and Canal roads. The Subaru failed to yield, leading a short pursuit to a nearby roadway where it stopped, facing a CHP patrol vehicle.

But when the officers got out of their vehicle, the driver of the Subaru drove toward the patrol vehicle without warning, hitting the officers before fleeing again. Other officers later found the Subaru abandoned, but the CHP did not say where.

Although the statement did not disclose an exact location for the incident, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters did respond to a medical call at 3:34 a.m. in the 2900 block of Mary Ann Lane just west of Bailey.

The officers were taken to a hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. Anyone with information on the incident, which remains under investigation, may call the CHP’s Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
