The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus is canceling all of its holiday show performances set for the Castro Theatre, after some members of the chorus tested positive for COVID-19.

These are breakthrough cases, which have occurred despite the chorus having “maintained rigorous testing and vaccine protocols throughout the past several months,” organizers say.

“Out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our members, crew, staff and audiences, we are making the difficult decision to cancel all performances of ‘Home for the Holidays,’ scheduled to take place at the Castro Theatre on Friday, December 24,” the organization announced in a prepared statement.

The chorus had three performances scheduled on Dec. 24 at the famed movie palace in San Francisco’s Castro District. The arts organization was able to perform its holiday show at other locations earlier this month, as scheduled.

The Gay Men’s Chorus has delighted audiences with these holiday productions for 30-plus years. This year’s show, “Home for the Holidays,” was a 70-minute production described on the chorus’ website as being “filled with merriment, mirth and a little bit mischief.”

The organization is encouraging ticket holders to convert their tickets into tax-deductible donations to the chorus. Donations or refund requests can be made to orders@cityboxoffice.com. Find more information at sfgmc.org.
