A power pole collapsed in San Rafael’s Dominican neighborhood Friday, leaving more than 2,000 customers without power, authorities said.
The incident was reported just before 6:15 a.m. near 1330 Grand Ave. between Belle Avenue and Jewell Street, near Dominican University, Lt. Dan Fink said.
A utility pole and live wires were discovered down in the area. A transformer also blew, San Rafael fire Battalion Chief Robert Sinnott said. No one was hurt, he said.
The outage affected the Dominican/Black Canyon and Country Club neighborhoods and portions of Santa Venetia, he said.
About 2,147 customers in San Rafael initially lost power, according to Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokeswoman Deanna Contreras.
The pole, which held both power lines and telecommunications equipment and was jointly owned, collapsed when two anchors supporting the pole failed, Contreras said. The incident is under investigation.
Power was restored to most customers by mid afternoon. Contreras said power was expected to be back online for the remaining 369 customers by late Friday.
