ORINDA — A man was killed overnight Saturday when he crashed into an unoccupied car parked on a shoulder lane of Highway 24, authorities said.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, died at the scene, California Highway Patrol said. No one else was hurt in the crash.

Authorities responded at about 1:33 a.m. Saturday to the two-vehicle crash, which took place west of the St. Stephens Drive highway exit in Orinda.

The victim had been driving a Toyota Avalon in the highway’s eastbound lane when he lost control of the car, rear-ending an unoccupied Dodge Challenger that was parked on the right shoulder.

It is not known if drugs or alcohol factored into the crash, authorities said. CHP is investigating the collision and can be contacted by witnesses at 925-646-4980.
