Gusts of wind up to 60 mph may blow through parts of the Bay Area on Sunday and Monday as part of the atmospheric river that’s expected to dampen the region with several inches of rain, weather officials say.

On Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the San Francisco Peninsula, East Bay, South Bay and Santa Cruz County from 4 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday. The winds, which will be blowing southward from the Bay Area to the Central Coast, will have gusts of 35 to 45 mph, with 55 to 60 mph gusts in the windiest locations.

A wind advisory has also been issued for Monterey and San Benito counties on Monday from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The atmospheric river, which officials say will start late Saturday and go through Monday, is expected to bring two to four inches in most parts of the Bay Area and four to six inches in coastal regions.

Officials recommend securing any outdoor objects or structures ahead of the storm as high winds could result in downed trees and power lines.
