SAN FRANCISCO — Injured center James Wiseman isn’t expected to return before the new year, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr strongly hinted.
Wiseman, who’s been sidelined since undergoing meniscus surgery on April 15, hasn’t yet participated in full contact scrimmages. And isn’t expected to in the near future.
“By the time he comes back and scrimmages it will take some time from there,” Kerr said before the Warriors’ game against the Orlando Magic on Monday. “So, you guys can do the math. I don’t want to be a headline.”
There have been no set backs. Kerr added that Wiseman is still doing individual work on the court. The recovery timeline from meniscus surgery can vary and is less predictable toward the final months.
While the Warriors may want to see their 2020 second overall pick develop, the team doesn’t need to rush his return.
“More than anything I feel bad for James because I’m dying for him to get out there for his well being and improvement and where he is in his young career,” Kerr said. “He’s too young for something like this to happen, so I feel bad for him. But he’s maintained a good attitude, he comes in every day and gets his work in. Whenever he gets out there, he’ll get out there and we’ll assess at that point how we want to use him.”
