OAKLAND — A Hayward resident has been arrested and charged with murdering two brothers who were shot and killed outside of an Oakland apartment building last September.
Sam Veimau, 25, was charged with murdering brothers Suiti and Manase Mesui on Sept. 26, as well as committing a residential burglary that same day. Veimau turned himself into Oakland police on Monday, according to court records.
Police said in court records that Veimau was identified as a suspect through “eyewitness statement and electronic information.” They have not released a suspected motive but say Veimau knew at least one of the victims.
Suiti and Manase Mesui were shot and killed around 1:55 a.m. Sept. 26, outside their home on the 3700 block of High Street. Police said at the time that a confrontation preceded the shooting and that there was more than one suspect. Veimau is charged with personally killing both men.
Veimau is due in court Monday for an arraignment. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
Police say Veimau refused to talk to them after his arrest.
