Town takes over movie theater

Stewardship of the Los Gatos Theatre, the historic movie theater that’s been a fixture on North Santa Cruz Avenue since 1915, was recently passed to the Town of Los Gatos from the Goetz family, which has owned the building since 2011. Over the years, the theater has fallen victim to multiple fires and an earthquake, being rebuilt each time.

General Plan feedback

Town officials are still soliciting feedback on the current draft of the General Plan, which will set town goals and priorities for the next 20 years. The draft—as well as a forum for comments and recordings of previous community meetings—is available online at www.LosGatos2040.com.

The Town Council will hold a virtual study session on the draft plan Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. There, they’ll discuss some of the proposed plan’s highlights, including the future of mixed-use development, infrastructure plans to deprioritize cars and make it easier for alternative forms of transportation and new environmental sustainability goals. The link to the meeting is available at the plan website.

Overcrossing meeting

The Town of Los Gatos is hosting a community meeting Dec. 2 to discuss the Highway 17 Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing Project. The project, part of the larger Connect Los Gatos initiative, aims to create a safe way for cyclists and pedestrians to cross over the highway. Funding for the project comes from the 2016 Santa Clara County Measure B and the town’s General Fund reserves. To join the meeting, set for 6 p.m., visit www.LosGatosCA.gov/Hwy17BPOC.
