An 87-year-old woman who went missing earlier this week from her Bay Point home is believed to have been found dead in a neighbor’s backyard, according to authorities.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office received a call at about 9 a.m. Saturday from a resident on Maureen Circle in Bay Point reporting an unknown, deceased person in their backyard.

The body is believed to belong to Adela Dela Pena, who was last seen at about 8:40 p.m. Nov. 16 at her home on the 600 block of Victoria Court in Bay Point, according to the sheriff’s office. Pena was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

When Pena’s family members discovered she was missing, they searched for her but could not find her. They alerted authorities on Nov. 17.

The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Division is working to confirm that the body matches Pena and to determine the cause of death.
