A California bank could be sold, is it a fit for PNC?

A bank spanning 19 states with a strong presence in Los Angeles and San Francisco may be in play, creating opportunities for a couple of Pittsburgh’s biggest banks. French financial giant BNP Paribas has hired a pair of investment banks to explore the sale of its $15 billion San Francisco-based retail subsidiary Bank of the West, Reuters reported on Monday. Bank of the West’s footprint could fill in gaps for PNC FInancial Services Group Inc., which closed its $11.6 billion acquisition of Houston-based BBVA USA Bancshares in June, or enable Citizens Financial Group to build on its expansion.
