Netflix has partnered with General Mills to create special Stranger Things boxes of all your favorite cereals. Thus giving fans a little taste of the series as they wait for the much-anticipated fourth season of the hit show, which will finally return after a long hiatus in the spring of 2022. The included cereals are Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Lucky Charms, all of which come with their own unique references to the show.
The Lucky Charm box features everybody’s favorite Leprechaun after Warwick Davis holding multi sided dice like the party would use in order to play Dungeons and Dragons. He’s also pointing to several Christmas lights, alluding to how Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) used that exact item to communicate with her abducted son Will (Noah Schnapp). The bottom of the box also adversaries a free toy Wheeler van.
The Cinnamon Toast Crunch box has its bowl of cereal upside down. Though that seems like a perfectly good way to get spilled milk everywhere, it’s also alluding to the Upside Down. The otherworldly dimension Will was trapped in during season one. And what upside down wouldn’t be complete without its very own Demogorgon. The smiling flower-shaped head of the creature is included on the box, along with five dollars worth of tokens to the Palace Arcade.
On the Cheerios box, it’s the logo that has been made upside-down. In addition to having the inside of the ‘o’ also shaped like a Demogorgon head. It also advertises a chance to win a $100 gift card to Starcourt Mall. The exact location where the KGB set up shop to penetrate the Upside Down themselves. In case fans missed that reference, there’s Russian writing on the box as well.
But wait, there’s more. The front of these limited-edition cereal boxes is only the start of the fun. Besides the fun Easter Eggs from the show that have already been mentioned, the side and back feature touches from the show as well. Like a missing poster for the character of Barb (Shannon Purser). The front covers of each box open like a book to reveal a full two-page Stranger Things activity.
The inside of the Lucky Charms box features the party riding away on their bikes E.T. style from season one. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch box has the tunnel system that the Demodogs utilized in season two, alongside the face of Will. And the Cheerios box has the Mind-Flayer’s avatar from season 3 and a picture of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) from that same season.
If you go to Netflix’s online shop, the listed price is $19.86 for each box. That might seem pricey to some, but there’s a reason for that. The year that Stranger Things season 4 takes place is 1986, hence that particular price. And bear in mind that this is more than your usual box of cereal. It’s also not your typical food crossover promotion either. These are collectibles that you won’t want your kids to play with, as enticing as that might be.
