After making a name for himself in the DCEU by playing Superman in Man of Steel, Henry Cavill has another superhero in mind he’d love to play for when he inevitably comes to the MCU. As it stands, Cavill’s future as Superman is unclear, with Ta-Nehisi Coates penning a new movie and Michael B. Jordan developing his own Superman series for HBO Max. This may leave out Cavill when it comes to the future of the DCEU, but that would also potentially free up his schedule to take on the role of a Marvel character.

Cavill spoke about his acting work in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and he addressed his potential future as Superman. While Cavill is still hoping to reprise that role again, nothing is currently in the works, and it’s possible his time playing that superhero is over. He was asked to name a character he’d like to play if he were to cross over to do a Marvel project, and because he doesn’t want to choose someone who already has someone playing him in the MCU, Cavill went with a more interesting choice.

“I’m never going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else because everyone’s doing such an amazing job. However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that – like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.”

Captain Britain, as he sounds, represents the U.K. in the way Captain America serves the United States. The superhero was created by Alan Moore and Alan Davis, first appearing in Captain Britain Weekly #1 in 1976 from Marvel Comics. In the comic book lore, he is given superpowers by the magician Merlyn to uphold the laws of Britain. He has appeared in animated Marvel shows and video games but has yet to show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the big screen.

This is one of many roles Henry Cavill fans would love to see him take on. He’s a very popular candidate to replace Daniel Craig as the new James Bond, following Craig’s retirement from that role with No Time to Die, but the search for the next 007 won’t begin until next year at the earliest. With the rumors swirling, Cavill was also asked once again about joining the James Bond franchise in his THR interview, and reiterated that he’s happy to have “that conversation” with the Bond producers.

Meanwhile, Henry Cavill is currently busy filming Enola Holmes 2 for Netflix alongside Millie Bobby Brown. This follows the success of the original movie which stars Brown as the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes with Cavill playing the famous detective. Fans of Cavill can also look forward to seeing him reprise the role of Geralt when the second season of The Witcher hits Netflix next month.
