Windows 10

The new update is now available for Windows 10 version 2004, version 20H2 and version 21H1. As per the official release notes, Microsoft has published cumulative updates KB5007186 and KB5007189.

This month’s cumulative updates apparently include security fixes for May 2021 Update (version 21H1), October 2020 Update (version 20H2), and May 2020 Update (version 2004). It’s also the second last security update for version 2004, which is set to reach the end of service in December.

The update is now rolling out via Windows Update, WSUS, and the Microsoft Update Catalog with numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Like every Patch Tuesday, you can check for and install new updates by going to Settings, clicking on Windows Update, and selecting ‘Check for Updates‘ to install the updates.

What’s new in the latest cumulative update for Windows 10

Microsoft has addressed several bugs with today’s cumulative update for Windows 10 version 2004 or later. This cumulative update addresses an issue affecting subtitles in certain videos and streaming platforms. Here’s the list of key changes:

  • Updates an issue an issue that might prevent subtitles from displaying for certain video apps and streaming video sites.  

  • Updates an issue that prevents Kana input mode users from inserting a question mark (?) using the Shift-0 key combination.

  • Updates an issue that sometimes causes your lock screen background to appear black if you have set up a slideshow of pictures as your lock screen background.
