OAKLAND — A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murdering his 31-year-old girlfriend near a remote section of the Oakland hills, court records show.
Matias Mendoza-Mendoza, of San Leandro, was charged with murdering Carolina Carrillo-Mendoza in an Oct. 18 shooting that police described as an execution-style killing. Charging records say that Mendoza-Mendoza was identified as a suspect through “video surveillance, interviews and investigation”; police say he admitted to being with the victim the day of the shooting.
According to authorities, Mendoza-Mendoza and Carrillo-Mendoza, who are not related, had previously dated and went to the 7800 block of Redwood Road in Oakland to discuss their relationship. They allege that Mendoza-Mendoza shot Carrillo-Mendoza during an argument, then left her body in the area.
Authorities were unable to identify Carrillo-Mendoza initially, and only confirmed her identity weeks after the shooting, through a fingerprint analysis.
Mendoza-Mendoza was arrested Wednesday at the Cardenas Market at 20812 Hesperian Boulevard in Hayward. He was in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on a no-bail hold. He did not enter a plea at his first court appearance Friday, but is expected to when he returns to court for an arraignment on Nov. 29.
