OAKLAND — A man killed Saturday night in an East Oakland shooting that left another man wounded was identified by police Wednesday as 55-year-old Dennis Brown.

Brown was fatally shot and a 33-year-old man wounded about 9:15 p.m. Saturday outside in the 1400 block of 89th Avenue. Brown died at the scene and  the other man was hospitalized but later released.

Authorities said Brown was unhoused, but was known to frequent the area of the shooting. Police believe the men were acquainted with each other.

Police have not said if the shooter was in a vehicle or approached the men on the street. A motive is under investigation and police are also trying to determine who the intended target was.
