Epic Games Publishing has revealed that it has partnered up with a brand new studio called Eyes Out, co-founded by Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck and Spry Fox, the studio behind this year’s Cozy Grove.

The publishing company says it’s partnering with Eyes Out and Spry Fox after the success found in the partnerships it made with Remedy, Playdead, and Gen Design last year and to “reinvent the developer/publisher relationship.”

“In pursuit of disrupting the industry, Epic Games offers all partners full creative freedom, complete IP ownership, and favorable financial terms,” Epic Games said in a press release about the announcement. “Additionally, Eyes Out and Spry Fox highlight Epic’s willingness to take risks on new projects and studios as both teams have set out to create their most ambitious projects yet, both built on Unreal Engine, with the support of Epic Games Publishing.”

Finck’s new studio pitched its game via an incubation approach with Epic. At the start, Eyes Out was given resources by Epic Games to build a proof-of-concept slice of their game, which Eyes Out then pitched to Epic. The publisher then decides to extend a complete publishing deal, and in this case, Epic extended the offer to Eyes Out. However, Epic Games says that if it decides not to move forward with a studio after a pitch, the developers “maintain full IP ownership to continue building their projects and pursue other publishing opportunities.”

Eyes Out’s first-ever game will be a “multiplatform single-player cosmic horror game” that fuses “the creative visions of Robin Finck and developer Corey David (Spec Ops: The Line),” according to Epic Games. Spry Fox is working on a “multiplatform nonviolent MMO” with Epic Games. Below is some concept art for Spry Fox’s MMO.
