BRENTWOOD — A 27-year-old Hayward woman was killed early Sunday and the driver of the car she was a passenger in sustained severe injuries after the vehicle crashed into a fence, police said.

The woman’s name has not yet been released.

Police said the two-door Lexus  the two were in was traveling eastbound on Concord Avenue about 1:40 a.m. Sunday  when it left the roadway near Bacchini Lane and crashed into a wooden split-rail fence. Both were ejected from the vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver, a 28-year-old Tracy man, was taken to a hospital with severe injuries not considered life-threatening, Lt. Mark Louwerens said.   Police do not know what the relationship was between the two but said the driver was not an immediately family member..

Police said the cause of the crash and whether alcohol and or drugs were factors remains under investigation.

Concord Avenue was expected to be closed until at least 9 a.m. Sunday while police investigated.
