A San Francisco man who went missing Sunday while kayaking on Clear Lake was found dead Thursday by a Calfire crew, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.

Dylan Flanagan, 28, last spoke to his girlfriend by phone around 5 p.m. Sunday while he was on the lake. All later phone calls went to voicemail, and he was reported missing around 8:15 that night.

High winds hampered search efforts Sunday night. On Monday morning, his kayak was found in Widgeon Bay, and other possessions were found in the Clear Lake Keys area — a paddle on Rattlesnake Island, and shoes, a hat, a water bottle and a life jacket on the shore near the marina.

Around 10:40 a.m. Thursday, employees of the California Department of Fire and Forestry Protection found the body along the lake shore near Olsen Road, a mile west of where the kayak was found.

An autopsy is scheduled for next week, the sheriff’s office said.

Flanagan had been staying with friends in a Clear Lake vacation house for a celebration of his birthday and a job promotion, the Lake County News said.

He grew up in Irvine and attended the University of California, Santa Barbara.
